On this trip, we will be exploring some of the most unique and pristine diving locations in the Southern Hemisphere – Kilsby Sinkhole, Ewens Ponds, The Little Blue Lake and the stunning coastline around Port Macdonnell.
The world famous Kilsby Sinkhole is an inconspicuous freediving mecca, nestled in the middle of a working sheep farm in South Australia. A unique geological structure formed over millions of years offering crystal clear visibility, making it the perfect location to begin, or continue, your freediving journey offering crystal clear visibility and depths of 25m.
In regards to the pristine ponds that make this place world famous, prepare for incredible water clarity, otherworldly underwater landscapes and an abundance of unique plant and aquatic life, unseen elsewhere – the perfect place to work on your underwater photography skills.

NEED TO KNOW
Course Requirements – Absolute beginners are welcome to join the SSI Level 1 Freediving Course. To complete the SSI Level 2, an SSI Level 1 certification is required.
Accommodation – We’ll have our very own beachfront house, fully equipped for relaxation, salty vibes and self-catering. Meals are not included.
Transport – please arrange your own transport to and from Mount Gambier. We’ll set up a group chat prior to the trip for all the trip details and to coordinate potential shared hire cars.
Gear Hire – Freediving gear can be arranged for hire if required.
National Park Fees – Not included. Entry to Ewens Ponds is $16 AUD per session.
Insurance – Comprehensive travel and diving insurance recommended. Enjoy a 10% DiveAssure discount upon booking.
WHAT TO BRING
- Freediving Gear – Please bring your own for ultimate comfort. Weights will be provided. Alternatively, hire gear can be arranged.
- Wetsuit Recommendation – Water temperature is around 15°C / 59°F, so we recommend a 5mm+ open-cell wetsuit with a hood, socks, and gloves for warmth.
- Essentials – Swimwear, hat, sunglasses, and reef safe sunscreen.
- Hydration – Refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the trip.
ITINERARY
Day 1 – Arrive at our beachfront accommodation anytime from 3pm. Introduction to freediving theory, followed by a group dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 – Beginner/advanced freediving theory, pool session (static & dynamic training), then afternoon dives at Kilsby Sinkhole and Ewens Ponds.
Day 3 – Morning depth training at Little Blue Lake, followed by freediving theory and an afternoon dive at a local dive site.
Day 4 – 9:30am dive at Kilsby Sinkhole, followed by afternoon freediving theory and a depth session at Little Blue Lake. End the day with a freediving and underwater photography Q&A.
Day 5 – Morning dive at a stunning local dive site, followed by completion of course requirements.

GETTING AROUND
We will be staying in Port Macdonnell in South Australia, equally accessible from Adelaide or Melbourne airports. We highly recommend hiring a car to travel between the dive sites in the area.
