NEED TO KNOW
To join, you’ll need an AIDA Master Freediver certification (or Equivalent).
You’ll need your Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training completed within the past 24 months, this can be done in Tamarindo.
At the end of the Instructor Course, you will achieve a 4-min breath hold, swim 90m (295ft) in dynamic apnea, and perform dives beyond 40m (131ft) depth. If you are unable to complete your course in this time, you can add additional training time.
An AIDA Instructor is qualified to teach the AIDA1, AIDA2 Freediver Course, AIDA3 Advanced Freediver Course, and the AIDA Monofin Course.
WHAT TO BRING
We provide all the necessary freediving gear—just pack the essentials:
- Swimwear, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- A reusable water bottle
- Travel sickness tablets (if you’re prone to motion sickness)
- If you own freediving gear, bring it along for ultimate comfort

ITINERARY
Prepare for an epic 7-day Instructor Course. Our training takes place in fully equipped multi-media rooms, a 32ft Boston Whaler and an 18ft Panga boat.
THEORY: Running a classroom, confined water and open water session, Risk Management, Marketing.
DRY TRAINING: Teaching theory classes, leading breathing and stretching sessions.
CONFINED WATER: Teaching Confined Water skills, Performance in static and dynamic apnea.
OPEN WATER: Teaching Open Water skills, Performance in Deep Diving and Rescue. Adapt comfortably to greater depths, refining your techniques to reach 40m (131ft). Learn rescue procedures, stamina tests, rope handling, knots, buoy setup, and open-water equipment management.
STATIC APNEA: Enhance your breath-hold times safely and efficiently beyond 4 minutes.
DYNAMIC APNEA: Develop perfect diving posture, turns, and finning techniques to cover distances of 90m (295ft) and beyond.
TRAVEL GUIDELINES
Before traveling, ensure you are aware of the latest travel restrictions, health protocols, and visa requirements for your trip. Check relevant government and airline and visa websites for up-to-date information.
GETTING AROUND
Tamarindo is a beachside town accessible by car, taxi, or shuttle. Nearest airports are Juan Santamaría (SJO) and Daniel Oduber Quirós (LIR). If flying into SJO, expect a 4.5-hour drive or shuttle ride to Tamarindo. If flying into LIR, the travel is of 1.5 hrs. Local airlines Nature Air and Sansa offer daily flights via Tamarindo, SJO, and LIR.
